Registering Early Includes Lunch at Dyslexia Conference April 13

The University of Arkansas Speech and Hearing Clinic presents a daylong conference April 13 on dyslexia and related disorders with Joyce Pickering, an internationally recognized expert in learning differences.

An Overview of Learning Differences-Dyslexia & Related Disorders runs from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Donald W. Reynolds Center for Enterprise Development, 145 N. Buchanan, Fayetteville. Download a brochure or call 479-575-4509 for more information.

The conference offers continuing education for speech-language pathologists, academic language therapists, teachers, special educators and parents. The registration cost varies with a discount offered for students. Lunch is included for participants who pre-register by April 3.

Pickering, a speech and hearing pathologist, is executive director emerita of Shelton School & Evaluation Center in Dallas, the world's largest private school for children with learning differences. She is president of the American Montessori Society board of directors, the 2013 AMS Living Legacy Honoree, and a recipient of the International Dyslexia Society Margaret Rawson Lifetime Achievement Award.

Vicki King with the Arkansas Department of Education, Division of Learning Services, will also present information regarding Act 1294. Act 1294 was passed by the Arkansas Legislature to ensure children with dyslexia have educational needs met in the public school setting.
