U of A Presents Exhibition of M.F.A. Candidate Laura Polaski in Fine Arts Center Gallery

The University of Arkansas Department of Art is pleased to announce the Noise., the M.F.A. thesis exhibition of Laura Polaski. The exhibition will be on display from April 17-26 in the Fine Arts Center Gallery. The Department of Art will host a reception on Friday, April 24, at 5:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Gallery.
Noise. considers the interruption of fear and trauma on individuals during their pursuit of pleasure and excitement. By utilizing the physicality of materials to reflect human figures, emotions, and the vulnerability of living things, Polaski's drawings and sculptures capture the effects of struggle. Artwork featured in the exhibition strives to conjure the subjectivity of experienced emotions. Textures, colors, and materials are exploited to create an environment where the viewer simultaneously experiences serenity and violence, as well as delight and grief.
The Studio Art M.F.A. program at the University of Arkansas provides an intensive studio environment for committed individuals planning careers as practicing artists. Students work with 29 faculty members to achieve a formal and technical proficiency within their studio area. In addition, students develop a strong conceptual foundation through research that locates their studio practice within contemporary and historical art.
