Workshop Provides Copyright Law Guidance for Internet Content Use

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Participants in an April workshop at the University of Arkansas Global Campus in Rogers will learn to avoid legal pitfalls when obtaining content from the Internet.

Copyright Law Pitfalls of Copy-and-Paste Content Creation” is set for 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 20. The cost is $49, but U of A faculty, staff, students and Alumni Association members receive a 10 percent discount.

The workshop is available online or in person in Suite 402, 3300 Market St., in the Arkansas World Trade Center building in Rogers. Register online.

Cutting and pasting information from the Internet might be tempting, but it might be illegal. This workshop will answer questions about copyright laws, document ownership, what information can be used, when and how. It also explains how to register and protect documents.

Joe D. Calhoun, who will teach the class, is a lawyer and principal at Hulsey Calhoun PC, an intellectual property boutique headquartered in Austin, Texas, with offices in Little Rock; Palo Alto, California; and Rochester, New York. Calhoun assists clients in obtaining patents for inventions, registering protection for trademarks and copyrighted materials, and acquiring ownership rights or use rights from others for trademarked or copyrighted material.

Participants will learn to

  • Create content without incurring liability for infringing on other’s copyrights
  • Maintain ownership of creative output, or consolidate ownership with an employer
  • Protect copyrights in creative output

 

The Global Campus is recognized by the Society for Human Resource Management to offer 2.75 professional development credits for the SHRM certified professional and senior certified professional certification.
