This Week in the Visual and Performing Arts: April 10-17

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences will host several musical performances, two art exhibitions and a literature reading this week. Students, faculty, staff and guests are encouraged to attend these events in the visual and performing arts.

Jennifer Burks will give a voice recital at 6 p.m. Friday, April 10, in The Fine Arts Center's Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall. She will be accompanied by Kristy Mezines, (piano).

Immediately following, Amanda Brooks will give a voice recital at 7:30 p.m. She will be accompanied by Miranda Baker and Madeleine Hogue (violin), Tazonio Anderson (viola), Nick Irby (cello), Tongxiao Zhou Cclarinet), Elvis Barkdsdale (oboe) and Yeo Hun Chun (piano).

Morgan Aldridge will give a voice recital at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 11, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Also on Saturday, Elvis Barksdale III will give an oboe recital at 5:30 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2925 Old Missouri Road.

Devanee Williams will give a harp recital at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 11, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Later that evening, the Arkansas Philharmonic Orchestra will present Northern Lights at 7:30 p.m. in the Berry Performing Arts Center in Siloam Springs.

Four performances will be given Sunday, April 12, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall. Jacob Carter will give a percussion recital at 1 p.m., the University of Arkansas Saxophone ensemble will perform at 3:30 p.m., Chase Jones will conduct at 6 p.m. and Jenny Gaylord will give a percussion recital at 8 p.m.

Monday to Friday

The University of Arkansas Voice faculty will give a performance at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 13, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Christine Hsu will give a piano recital at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

The University of Arkansas Horn Choir will give a performance at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 16, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Simultaneously, the University of Arkansas Tuba and Euphonium Quartets will give a performance at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

Noise, an exhibition by Laura Polaski, will open Friday, April 17, in the Fine Arts Center Gallery with a reception at 5:30 p.m. The exhibit will run until Sunday, April 26. Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday and 2-5 p.m. Sunday.

Also on Friday, Abby Carr will give a voice recital at 6 p.m. in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

At the same time, Alex Grisos will give a trumpet recital at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 224 N. East Ave.

Willi Goehring, Kathleen Heil and Diana Reaves will give readings of their works written in the Program in Creative Writing at 7 p.m. Friday, April 17, in Old Main's Giffels Auditorium.

Later that evening, Amanda Davis will give a voice recital at 8 p.m. in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

Breaking Wind, an exhibition by Todd Pentico, will continue until Sunday, April 12, in the Fine Arts Gallery.
