New Network Engineering Team Members Focus on Security and Reliability

The IT Services Network Engineering Team recently hired two new members as part of a restructuring effort to improve the security and reliability of the campus network and provide quicker response to issues.

Cody Villar joined the Network Engineering Team as network security operations engineer and is responsible for keeping personal information, the networks and other campus resources secure. This new position allows for better response to general network security threats and vulnerabilities.

Before joining the Network Engineering team, Villar was a senior security analyst on the IT Services Security Team for two years and was responsible for planning and implementing security measures for campus information systems, as well as supporting compliance efforts involving FERPA, HIPPA, PCI and FISMA. Villar is currently certified in CISSP, GCFE, ITIL and CDIA+.

Ryan Moore joined the team as a senior network operations engineer and is responsible for implementation, troubleshooting and maintenance of the campus access layer network, as well as incident resolution, oversight of cabling and infrastructure, and researching and implementing new network technologies. This new position provides support and faster completion times for department or unit initiatives and campus construction projects.

Moore previously worked as master scientific research technologist in Mechanical Engineering and has over 16 years of experience working in information technology. Moore has significant experience with Cisco solutions and is currently certified in A+, Network+, Security+, CCNA, MCSA and CEH.

Villar and Moore report to Elon Turner, director of network operations for IT Services.
