Nursing Students' Resolutions Approved at National Convention

University of Arkansas nursing students presented two resolutions that were approved at the National Student Nurses Association annual convention April 7-11 in Phoenix.
Alexandra Irvin, Chelsea Marquis and Katherine Grotowski all serve on the Arkansas Nurses Association Board. Irvin presented a resolution in support of increased education in nursing curricula related to time management in clinical settings. The resolution stated that good time management skills can help reduce a nurse's level of stress and improve balance between work and personal life and, ultimately, increase job satisfaction.
Marquis and Grotowski presented a resolution in support of mental health first-aid training for emergency service personnel. A mental health first-aid course helps emergency personnel recognize, manage and prevent potential harm to self or others by the mental health patient. It can help such personnel reduce social distance and stigmatizing attitudes as well as give the personnel more confidence when crises occur, the resolution stated.
In addition to the three board members, five other students in the Eleanor Mann School of Nursing, all officers in the school's Student Nurses Association chapter, attended the convention: Stephanie Edmondson, Hannah Thompson, Megan Ferguson, Casey Word and Jamie Pitcock. Allison Scott, assistant professor of nursing, and Jacklyn Gentry, assistant director of the nursing school, accompanied the students.
