Allegra Hanson

Senior Allegra Hanson has been selected as the April Student Leader of the Month. Originally from North Kingstown, Rhode Island, Allegra came to the University of Arkansas to major in hospitality management and minor in marketing. She is currently vice president of finance for Eta Sigma Delta International Hospitality Society, president of the Arkansas Women's Ultimate Club, event representative for the Arkansas Union, and an event manager at the Fayetteville Town Center.

When asked what advice she would give to other leaders, Allegra wrote, "Listen to the people around you and get to know them. I've learned people respond much better to a leader who cares about their life and listens to them." This attitude of focusing on others explains why Allegra's favorite quote states, "I set out to find a friend and could not find one. I set out to be a friend, and friends were everywhere."

Allegra's reasons for getting involved connect to the bigger picture of her academic experience. She states, "I enjoy being involved in the community around me. I think clubs, extra-curricular activities, and jobs enhance academic experiences. They provide real life application of leadership skills and give me the chance to socialize with other students."

The Student Leader of the Month Award, sponsored by New Student & Family Programs, recognizes University of Arkansas undergraduate students for their excellence in leadership through campus involvement, leadership activities, or through volunteer and community service.  More information about the award can be found by visiting http://leadership.uark.edu.
