Bumpers College Didactic Program Director Elected to NDEP Regional Position

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Cindy Moore, director of the didactic program in dietetics in the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences at the University of Arkansas, has been elected Area 3 regional director for the Nutrition and Dietetic Educators and Preceptors of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Moore will serve as the regional director for two years. She joins the group's decision-making body composed of 13 elected members and four appointed members known as the NDEP Council.

"Our dietetics program, the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences, and the U of A are represented nationally among more than 450 Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics-accredited dietetic education programs in the U.S. and Puerto Rico," said Moore, a clinical assistant professor.

One of NDEP's key functions is to address the future of nutrition and dietetics practice, and the education and training required to meet that need. In addition, the group coordinates these issues with its accrediting body, the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics, and the Commission on Dietetic Registration.

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics has more than 70,000 members. The Nutrition and Dietetic Educators and Preceptors is made up of seven regions represented by more than 1,100 dietetic educators, program directors and preceptors who are registered dietitians and registered dietitian nutritionists in practice and who supervise dietetic interns. Area 3 includes Arkansas, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina and Puerto Rico.

The U of A dietetics program is part of the human nutrition and hospitality innovation concentration in the School of Human Environmental Sciences. The program is accredited by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
