Professionals Drop In to Walton College Classes for Professional Development

ROGERS, Ark. – Professionals seeking to manage organizational change and control workplace conflict can register for two professional development sessions from the Global Campus and drop in to classes at the Sam M. Walton College of Business.

Arthur T. Matthews, a visiting professor at Walton College who holds a law degree, will open two of his classes on June 16 to professionals who register for the Global Campus professional development sessions. Professionals will join college students inside the Business Building at 220 N. McIlroy Ave., Fayetteville.

Professionals can register online. The cost is $59 per session. U of A faculty, staff, students and Alumni Association members receive a 10 percent discount.

“I am a huge supporter of the amazing game-changing dynamics that are an integral part of a conversation between industry leaders and our students,” Matthews said. “Learning from and listening to students is our responsibility. In the final analysis offering these classes in this format creates a signature opportunity for both stakeholders." 

The June 16 sessions, times and locations are:

• Organizational Change: Lead or Get Left Behind. Your Choice. How to Make Organizational Change Work for YOU, Your Team and Your Organization, 2 to 5:15 p.m., Room 234.
• Conflict: Take Control or Let it Control You. Your Choice. How to Employ Conflict Resolution Tools in the Workplace, 6 to 9:30 p.m., Room 239.

Participants can register for a complimentary buffet dinner from 5:15 to 6 p.m. in Room 234. Dinner is sponsored by the Northwest Arkansas Chapter of the Human Resources Association, also known as NOARK.

Parking is available in the Harmon Avenue Parking Garage.

“I am delighted to be able to offer these classes for professionals,” said Judith Tavano, director of professional development programs at the Global Campus. “These classes accomplish three things. Professionals get to see the Walton College up-close. They sit in a classroom with peers and students who could be their employees someday. They also experience how Arthur Matthews brings it all together so that it is a networking and learning experience like no other.” 

These sessions have been approved for recertification hours by the Human Resource Certification Institute and the Society for Human Resource Management. The organizational change session provides 3.25 recertification hours, and the workplace conflict session provides 3.5 recertification hours.

Matthews is a certified mediator and arbitrator. He possesses a 25-year body of work in leadership, negotiations, employee/labor relations, human resources and diversity and inclusion. He serves as an assistant adjunct professor at New York University and as a consulting faculty member at Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Relations.
