The search firm selected to support the search for the sixth chancellor of the University of Arkansas, Greenwood/Asher & Associates, has been working behind the scenes to move the search from the planning phase to the current recruitment phase. Chancellor G. David Gearhart has announced his intention to retire, July 31. Daniel E. Ferritor will serve as interim.

Following the initial committee meeting, advertisements were placed in national publications including The Chronicle of Higher Education, Diverse Issues in Higher Education, Association for Women in Science, and Inside Higher Education, to name a few.

Greenwood/Asher has reported to the committee it has begun to make inquiry and recruitment calls to prospective candidates. A recruitment package featuring an overview of the position, signature university publications as well regional tourism information was assembled for their use with prospects. They will continue to be actively engaged in recruitment conversations.

"We are pleased with the reports that we are receiving from the search firm of Greenwood/Asher," said Howard Brill, search committee chairman. "We expect that the firm will provide the names of a number of individuals who are well qualified to serve as the next chancellor. The committee will meet early in the fall semester to discuss those individuals and to move forward with the next phase of the search."

The search committee is an advisory body charged to make recommendations to U of A System President Don Bobbitt, who will select a finalist for Board of Trustees approval.
