Teacher-Education Students Invited to Learn About Ireland Study Abroad Trip

Students studying teacher education at the University of Arkansas are eligible to participate in a two-week faculty-led study abroad experience in Ireland after the spring semester.

Applications for the program will be taken beginning Sept. 23, and information is available on the Office of Study Abroad & International Exchange website. Students also can learn more about the Ireland trip at the study abroad fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Arkansas Union Connections Lounge.

The University of Limerick and University College Dublin in Ireland will host the students, who will visit two primary schools. They will interact with kindergarten through sixth-grade students and their teachers in several classroom settings.

U of A students will also meet with University of Limerick education students and faculty members to learn about college programs and life experiences in Ireland.

"Additionally, UA students will participate in several one-hour lectures that provide an overview of Irish culture and history," said Paul Calleja, clinical associate professor of kinesiology. "Throughout the 16-day stay, UA students will join students from other countries as they tour historical and cultural sites throughout Ireland."

Calleja and Jack Kern, clinical professor of kinesiology, will lead the trip, which is in its second year in the College of Education and Health Professions.
