Volunteer Action Center Offers SNAP Training

The Center for Community Engagement in conjunction with Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance will host a SNAP training to prepare volunteer SNAP educators in the NWA community. SNAP, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, offers nutrition assistance to millions of eligible, low-income individuals and families and provides economic benefits to communities.

Formerly referred to as Food Stamps, the new name seeks to more fully meet the needs of clients by focusing on nutrition. Over the course of the hour training, participants will be introduced to the SNAP application process, qualifications, and have the opportunity to ask questions regarding food insecurity and assistance programs as they relate to the state of Arkansas. Jill Pryor and Tomiko Townley with Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance will be facilitating this training. Once trained, the volunteer educators will be prepared to guide individuals through the SNAP application process and provide information on SNAP eligibility and restrictions.

Anyone interested in learning more about SNAP is invited to attend this educational event. This training will be held in the Arkansas Union room 504 on Sept. 28. There are two sessions open for registration; 3-4 p.m. and 4-5 p.m. Click https://uark.givepulse.com/event/register/13209 to register for this event!

The Volunteer Action Center food programs, Razorback Food Recovery and Full Circle Food Pantry, will be hosting this event. Razorback Food Recovery works to recover extra, wholesome food that would otherwise be wasted and donates it to hungry people in the Northwest Arkansas community. Razorback Food Recovery Volunteers work with Chartwells Dining Service employees to recover the surplus food daily. Full Circle Campus Food Pantry is a student-run emergency food assistance program that distributes food and personal products to all members of the University of Arkansas community. The pantry is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. To learn more about the Volunteer Action Center visit service.uark.edu
