University Recreation to Challenge Texas A&M During Celebrate Cycle

Participants are encouraged to try out the new bikes during Celebrate Cycle week by attending a regularly scheduled Group Cycle or Cycle Express class during the week of Sept. 21 at the HPER Building. During this time, University Recreation will be competing against Texas A&M to log the highest total miles, with participants' mileage counting toward the total. Free Celebrate Cycle water bottles will be awarded to those who attend.

Group cycle provides the benefits of a calorie-burning workout in a supportive group setting. Set to music and led by a certified instructor, this high-energy, low-impact workout utilizes University Recreation's brand-new IC7 Matrix stationary bikes. University Recreation offers Group Cycle classes at 12 different times throughout the week. Class dates and times are available in the Group Fitness schedule, which can be accessed via the uarkrec app or at urec.uark.edu. Classes are free to students, faculty, staff, and those with a current UREC membership.

On Sept. 12, University Recreation cycling instructors attended an IC7 Matrix bike certification. Shaina Hayutin, Graduate Assistant for Fitness and Wellness, is excited about the new opportunities for cycling classes.

"Now that we had the opportunity to learn how to utilize these bikes to their greatest potential, the instructors are incredibly eager to teach on them," Hayutin said. "Participants are going to love the new possibilities."

The bikes, designed for a smooth and accurate ride, offer an advanced mode in the console that displays personal speed, gears, and power. A color mode can be activated that changes display colors based on intensity and power output, allowing participants to have a more personalized workout.
