Scott Hilton to Present Visiting Artist Lecture
Scott Hilton

The Department of Art continues its visiting artist lecture series with photographer Scott Hilton at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, in Hillside Auditorium Room 206.

Scott Hilton is a senior lecturer in photography at the University of Texas at Arlington. He finished his undergraduate degree in art at the University of Nevada, Reno, in 1991 and his Master of Fine Arts at California State University in Fullerton in 2005. His photographic work has been exhibited in numerous venues across the U.S., including the Lightwell Gallery at the University of Oklahoma, the Mills Pond House Gallery in Smithtown, New York, the Vermont Center for Photography, Kiernan Gallery in Lexington, Virginia, 500X Gallery in Dallas and 23 Sandy Gallery in Portland, Oregon.

He works primarily in antiquated, handmade photographic processes, and addresses issues dealing with the interpretation of history, character, and narrative. His current work, Project Barbatype, is a collaboration with photographer Bryan Wing, and uses the tintype process to photograph the men (and women) who compete in the nationwide circuit of Beard and Moustache competitions.

Find out more about his work at www.projectbarbatype.com.

This lecture is made possible by the Joy Pratt Markham Visiting Artist Fund, which supports the department by bringing renowned artists to the University of Arkansas to speak to both students and the community. This event is free and open to the public.
