Arkansas' Ice Hockey Club First SEC School to Host ACHA Division I Games
The University of Arkansas men's ice hockey team will host the Colorado Buffaloes on Friday, Oct. 2, and Saturday, Oct. 3, at 7:30 p.m. at the Jones Center. By hosting this team, Arkansas will be the first SEC school to host the American Collegiate Hockey Association Division I games.
The Colorado Buffaloes' visit will mark their first trip to Northwest Arkansas in Western Collegiate Hockey League conference play.
"Colorado is ranked number 15 in the nation, so we will have our hands full," said head coach Brian Gallini, who is also a faculty member of the University of Arkansas School of Law. "We encourage our fans to come out and cheer us on this weekend."
There are 350 seats available for all home games in the upper stands of the Jones Center, which near at the corner of Old Missouri Road and Emma Avenue in Springdale. All seating in the upper stands is general admission and seating exists on a first-come, first-served basis. Standing room only tickets at the glass level are also available. The entire lower section of the arena is considered the "student section." However, non-students may also purchase glass-level tickets. The University of Arkansas Men's Ice Hockey Club is one of 30 active clubs in the club sports program operated by University Recreation at the University of Arkansas. Nicknamed the Razorbacks, the club plays in the American Collegiate Hockey Association Division I and III. It is not one of the 19 NCAA-sponsored sports within the university's Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. The club does compete against other club programs in Southeastern Conference and Western Collegiate schools. The purpose of the club sports program is to allow students the opportunity to participate in sports at a competitive or instructional level. Clubs are self-administered and self-regulated with parameters set by program and university policy.
