FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — On Friday, Oct. 23, the University of Arkansas will dedicate the Jane B. Gearhart Full Circle Campus Food Pantry in recognition of the former U of A first lady's commitment to tackling food insecurity. The campus is invited to attend.

The dedication will take place at 3 p.m. in the lobby of the Administration Building.

In fall 2010, Jane Gearhart learned that U of A students were working to establish a campus food pantry to address food insecurity among their fellow students and other members of the university community.

She stepped in to help and became a prominent and effective advocate supporting the establishment and continued operation of the pantry.

Everyone attending is encouraged to bring non-perishable food donations to the pantry dedication. The items most needed by the pantry include canned chicken, canned fruit, canned vegetables, canned tuna, cereal, jelly, oatmeal, pasta, peanut butter and soup.

Speakers at the event include Gearhart; Charles Robinson, vice provost for student affairs and vice chancellor for diversity and community; Chris Wyrick, vice chancellor for university advancement; Gaby Dominguez, student and chair of the Jane B. Gearhart Full Circle Campus Food Pantry Committee; Angela Oxford, director of the Center for Community Engagement.
