Faculty Technology Center to Report to Global Campus

Chris McCoy, chief information officer, and Javier Reyes, vice provost for distance education, announce a temporary and transitional realignment of the Faculty Technology Center reporting structure, effective Nov. 1. The center, which currently reports to IT Services, will now report to Global Campus under the supervision of Don Judges, associate vice provost for distance education.

"This change is intended to strategically align the development and support of learning technology across campus," McCoy said. "Because Global Campus is charged with supporting instructional design, modifying the Faculty Technology Center reporting structure will strengthen coordination of the center's processes with the growing and changing processes of Global Campus."

"Global Campus has a close working relationship with the Faculty Technology Center, and we believe this is an initial step toward improved delivery of learning technology at the university," Judges said. "This arrangement will enhance our ability to support faculty and student use of learning technology on campus and online to meet the university's distance education top five goals."

During the transition, technology decisions will remain under the leadership of the Office of the CIO, and instructional design decisions will remain under the leadership of Global Campus — both in consultation with appropriate campus stakeholders.

"Long-term," McCoy said, "I expect that technical support for learning technologies will transition to a model of shared support provided through a campuswide service desk and/or service team and that technical administration will become more tightly integrated with a centralized team of infrastructure specialists. Analysis by Global Campus and IT Services will be ongoing, however, and adjustments may be made at any time."
