Economics Professor Examines Teacher Salary Increase Effect on Student Performance

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Karthik Muralidharan, associate professor of economics at the University of California, San Diego, will speak at noon Friday, Dec. 4, in Room 309, Graduate Education Building. His lecture is titled "Double for Nothing? Experimental Evidence on the Impact of an Unconditional Teacher Salary Increase on Student Performance in Indonesia."
The lecture is part of the Department of Education Reform Lecture Series.
Those planning to attend any of the lectures in the series are asked to RSVP on the Department of Education Reform's website before 1 p.m. the Wednesday preceding the lecture.
Muralidharan's primary research interests include development, public and labor economics. Specific topics of interest include education, health and social protection; measuring quality of public service delivery; program evaluation; and improving the effectiveness of public spending with a focus on developing countries.
He is a research associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research, a Fellow of the Bureau for Research and Economic Analysis of Development, a board member and co-chair of the education program at the Jameel Poverty Action Lab, an affiliate at the Center for Effective Global Action, and a research affiliate with Innovations for Poverty Action.
