Department of Poultry Science Hosting Tom Porter for Monday Seminar
Tom Porter will be on campus Monday speaking on genetics, hormones and stress-control in the growth of broiler chickens.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Tom Porter, who researches the growth and metabolism in avian species, will be on campus Monday for a free seminar sponsored by the Department of Poultry Science in the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences.
His presentation, "Genetics, Hormones, and Stress-Control of Growth and Body Composition in Broiler Chickens," is at 1:15 p.m. in AFLS Building Room D115.
Porter is a professor in the Department of Animal and Avian Sciences at the University of Maryland.
His research is devoted to understanding the neuroendocrine regulation of growth and metabolism in avian species. He focuses primarily on cellular differentiation of the anterior pituitary gland during embryonic development and global gene expression in the neuroendocrine system.
Porter, who earned his doctorate from the University of Minnesota, has been honored by several national and international organizations, and his research is well-funded by competitive federal grant support. He is internationally recognized as an expert in avian endocrinology, growth and metabolism, and his publications have been cited more than 1,100 times.
The seminar is free and open to everyone.
