New Wi-Fi Standards Causing Issues for Some Devices
IT Services has thoroughly investigated a known issue that prevents devices from connecting to secure Wi-Fi. Recent changes to some operating systems have caused devices to be unable to connect to most secure wireless networks. Wireless network providers are currently unable to meet a new security standard, and hardware vendors are working to find a fix. Ultimately, user information and devices will be better protected once networks are compatible with the new standard.
Network engineers at the University of Arkansas recommend users do not upgrade to Android 6.0, Windows 10 version 1511 or Ubuntu 15.10 until a fix is in place. Unsecured wireless networks like UARK Guest Wi-Fi are not affected by the issue.
