Fall 2015 MAST Center Industrial Advisory Board Meeting

The Membrane Science, Engineering & Technology Center in the Ralph E. Martin Department of Chemical Engineering hosted the Fall 2015 Industrial Advisory Board meeting at the Hilton Garden Inn in Fayetteville on Oct. 25-27.

The center is a National Science Foundation Multi-university Industry/University Cooperative Research Center. Additional sites are at the University of Colorado, Boulder and the New Jersey Institute for Technology.

The meeting opened with a welcome reception on Sunday evening, which provided UA invited faculty an opportunity to present project posters to the Industrial Advisory Board members, researchers and guests. Presenters included Julie Stenken, professor of analytical chemistry, Ryan Tian, associate professor of inorganic chemistry, Shannon Servoss, associate professor of chemical and biomedical engineering, Lauren Greenlee, assistant professor of chemical engineering, and Simon Ang, professor of electrical engineering. The presentations introduced faculty research and generated significant interest from MAST Center sponsors.

Research results were presented by the student researchers, faculty or primary investigators of each of the 17 projects currently funded by the center on Monday, Oct. 26. In addition, a poster session which highlighted the current research being conducted by the Center was held on Monday evening. Peter Fyfe, staff engineer at Southwestern Energy, presented "The Fresh Water Neutral Challenge and Our ECH20 Program" and Ang provided a tour of the UA High Density Electronics Center.

Wrapping up the meeting on Tuesday was a closed meeting with the center's Industrial Advisory Board to discuss the research projects and mentor meetings, a time for students to spend one on one time with the industry leaders.
