The Drawing and Painting Association is proud to host contemporary painter Brett Baker for a lecture on his work in Giffels Auditorium on Feb. 25 at 5:30 p.m. There will be a question and answer period afterward.

Baker lives and works in Raleigh, North Carolina. He is represented by Elizabeth Harris Gallery in New York, where he had solo shows in 2013 and 2015. He was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2002.

Baker applies many layers of thick, richly pigmented paint over extended periods of time to produce intimately scaled, visually resonant paintings that both hint at pictorial space and assert their material physicality.

Baker is the editor of Painter's Table, a highly-trafficked online painting magazine. He writes frequently about art and artists, including Pat Passlof, Chaim Soutine, George Braque, and Nicolas De Staël.

Baker lives and paints in New York City. Before moving to New York, Baker painted huge works on the scale of murals. His condensed space in the City inspired him to create small paintings that have the presence of his large work. His new paintings take years to complete. They are layered with thick, pigment rich paint in colors that feel close to each other yet retain a clarity that reveals a gift for color.
