David Kreider, Retired Longtime Animal Science Professor, Dies at 67

The University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture Department of Animal Science recently said goodbye to former faculty member David Lee Kreider. Kreider, 67, died Jan. 23, 2016, at home in Springdale.

He was born Aug. 8, 1948, in Vinita, Okla., to Gene and Colleen Kreider. He retired in 2014 after 30 years as a professor in the Department of Animal Science. He taught many courses over the years, including: Stocker/Feedlot, Endocrine Physiology, Cow/Calf and Advanced Analytical Methods. He was also responsible for the departmental newsletter and the Arkansas Animal Science Report. He received his B.S. from the U of A in 1973, M.S. from Oklahoma State University in 1975 and Ph.D. from the U of A in 1982.

"David wore many hats in the department, college and university during his 30 years of service," said Michael Looper, head of the Department of Animal Science. "He impacted the lives of numerous students, faculty, and staff. David will definitely be missed." 

He is survived by wife Marla, their children and spouses Rick and Amanda, James and Adrianne, and Parke and Anna; children Austin and Samantha; six grandchildren; sister Carolyn, and brothers Jack and Ronnie; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be at Fellowship Bible Church in Lowell on Thursday, Jan. 28 at 10 a.m. Memorials may be sent to the American Diabetes Association.
