Neag School of Education Professor to Speak on Career, Technical Education

Shaun M. Dougherty, assistant professor of education policy and leadership at the Neag School of Education at the University of Connecticut will speak at noon Friday, Feb. 5, on the University of Arkansas campus. His lecture is titled "The Influence of Career and Technical Education on High School Completion, College-Going and Initial Wages."

The lecture is part of the Department of Education Reform Lecture Series and will take place in Room 343, Graduate Education Building.

Those planning to attend any of the lectures in the series are asked to RSVP on the Department of Education Reform's website before 1 p.m. the Wednesday preceding the lecture.

Dougherty's research includes applied quantitative analysis of education policies and programs including career and technical education. He emphasizes how policies and practices affect educational equity related to certain demographics associated to race, class, gender, and disability.

He is a former high school mathematics teacher and assistant principal. Dougherty has conducted policy research for the Center of Education Policy Research at Harvard University, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Schools, and the Thomas B. Fordham Institute. His work has been published in the Journal of Research on Educational Effectiveness, Education Evaluation and Policy Analysis, and Education Finance and Policy.
