Flu season is upon us, so why take the risk of catching the flu when getting a flu vaccine is quick and easy. When the year started, the Pat Walker Health Center purchased more than 2,400 flu vaccines to help protect the University of Arkansas community. With flu season in full-effect, the center only has less than 300 vaccines left, so don't miss your chance to protect yourself!

Top five reasons to get a flu vaccine

  1. Helps prevent you from getting the flu
  2. Helps decrease the severity if you do contract the flu
  3. Keeps you from spreading the flu to others
  4. You can contract the flu by simply breathing droplets from an infected person or by direct contact
  5. You don't have time to miss 7-14 days of classes or work

How do I get vaccinated?

Getting your flu vaccine is simple. Just schedule an appointment with the health center's Immunization Clinic by going to myhealth.uark.edu or calling 479-575-7723. The clinic is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

How do I know if I have the flu?

Symptoms begin to appear one to four days after exposure, and include a sudden onset of:

  • Body chills
  • Fever greater than or equal to 101 degrees
  • Head and body aches
  • Muscle pain
  • Dry coughing
  • Red eyes
  • Runny nose

These symptoms usually subside within three to five days, but fatigue and weakness may persist for several weeks. If you experience any of these symptoms, it's best to make an appointment with the health center.
