University of Arkansas Panhellenic Sororities Open for Extension

The University of Arkansas Panhellenic Council is opened for extension. The council, comprised of 10 national sororities, is looking to extend an invitation to two new sororities – one in fall 2016 and the other in fall 2018.

"We are excited about this opportunity to welcome new sororities to our campus community. Our chapters are eager to learn more about each organization and how they could make a tremendous impact to an ever growing Greek community", said Mackenzie Lantefield, president of Panhellenic Council.

The decision to add new sororities was initially passed in October 2015 in response to the increased membership growth our Panhellenic chapters continue to experience each year.  Last fall, the announcement was made to selected National Panhellenic Conference organizations, and the University received two applications from interested sororities. The Panhellenic Extension Committee, composed of undergraduate and alumnae representatives from each of the existing sororities was then formed to review materials and will make a recommendation to the Panhellenic Council later this semester.

"Over the next few weeks, two national organizations will be on campus to share what their organization has to offer to U of A community. We are expecting a great turn out for all on campus presentations as well as strong feedback from all who participate in this selection process," said Parice Bowser, director of Greek Life.

During February, the NPC sororities will visit campus and make formal presentations about their organization to the community.  Listed below are the sorority presentations scheduled:

• Feb. 15 – Delta Gamma
• Feb. 17 – Alpha Gamma Delta

On the dates indicated, a formal reception is scheduled to begin 2:30 p.m. and a one hour formal presentations will begin promptly at 3 p.m. Both will be held in the Arkansas Union Ballroom and are open to any member of the campus and surrounding community including UA students, alumni, faculty, and others interested in learning more about these organizations.

"Ultimately, we hope to create more opportunities for U of A women who want to be a part of our vibrant community," Lantefield said.
