On Monday, March 14, RESPECT and No Woman Left Behind will host the grass roots, visually striking photo series, Guarded.

Originally started in 2014 by University of Iowa student, Taylor Yocom, this powerful photo series portrays portraits of college female students and the items they carry around to protect themselves from sexual violence. Guarded amplifies the absurdity that women feel the need to take such measures within a rape culture.

In May 2015, Guarded went viral, garnering media attention from news outlets all over the world including Vanity Fair, BuzzfeedUSA Today and The Huffington Post. With the success of the project, Yocom partnered with KT Hawbaker-Krohn to expand the series into a book.

All students, staff and faculty are invited to attend their presentation being held at 5 p.m. in room 283 of the Pat Walker Health Center. Yocom will take photos of student volunteers to add to the project, while Hawbaker-Krohn will interview for the essay portion of the project.

RESPECT and No Woman Left Behind will also provide information and activity tables, including make your own art.
