Uof A Presents: Tableau Vivant M.F.A. Thesis Exhibition of Christopher Drobnock

The University of Arkansas Department of Art is pleased to announce tableau vivant, the M.F.A. Thesis Exhibition of Christopher Drobnock. The exhibition will be on display from March 30 to April 3 in the Fine Arts Center Gallery. The Department of Art will host a closing reception at 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 1, in the Fine Arts Center Gallery. All events are free and open to the public.
The body of work presented is based on the associative properties of objects. His work is primarily constructed from ceramic elements collected in the gallery space to operate as three-dimensional still life that can be experienced through physical proximity of object.
The artist says the following about the work: "In terms of need for functionality the design world and industrial production have moved far beyond the pure necessity of the handmade object. With the paper coffee cup, the disposable, utility is the primary goal and after the service is performed the thing is discarded. The clay object is used and reused allowing a personal relationship to form between the user and the object, the maker and the user. My work is meant to reconnect us with the haptic; the tacit knowledge of the physical. I want the user to be thinking of a place beyond the gallery; I want my sculpture to bring greater awareness to the constructed world around us."
