U of A Student Faces Knock Out Round Competition on 'The Voice' Tonight

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – University of Arkansas junior Trey O’Dell enters the next stage of the NBC music competition The Voice starting at 7 p.m. Monday, April 4.
This is the “Knock Out” round, in which two singers from the same team each perform a different song – with the team coach picking a winner to advance to the next stage of the competition.
This time around O’Dell’s coach is Christina Aguilera. She “stole” him for her team following the “battle round” duets last week.
“Christina is one of the best vocalists in the world and it was a huge honor to work with her, very exciting,” said O’Dell. “She really concentrated on helping me use my voice, on pushing my range.”
Pop phenomenon Miley Cyrus was also on hand to advise the singers in the week of preparation for the performance.
“It was incredible. You know, I grew up watching her on Hannah Montana, but I didn’t tell her that. She was really very helpful. I’m used to standing behind a guitar and playing while I sing. She really worked with me opening up my stage performance, giving me tips on how to hold and command the stage.
“This whole experience has been just amazing. I could never have imagined it.”
If O’Dell wins his knockout round he advances to perform in the live competitions, with viewers getting a chance to vote for their favorites.
