Industrial Engineering Doctoral Student Receives Prestigious Scholarship

Payam Parsa, University of Arkansas doctoral student in industrial engineering, has been awarded the Electrification and Controls Manufacturers Association Honor Scholarship by the Material Handling Education Foundation Inc. The award will provide $2,500 for Parsa to use for the 2016-2017 academic year.

Parsa; who is advised by Manuel Rossetti, professor of industrial engineering, has excelled in his career at the University with numerous conference presentations, publications, honors and awards. His interests include supply chain and logistics, data analytics, applied optimization and simulation, cost modeling and decision making.

"Payam has shown great promise as an applied researcher in industrial engineering. He has been instrumental in the success of a research project within the Center for Excellence in Logistics and Distribution (CELDi), a National Science Foundation Industry/University Cooperative Research Center," said Rossetti.

Corwin Hee of Medtronic said, "I have had the privilege of working with Payam Parsa over the past 18 months. Over that time, his direct efforts have led to some groundbreaking findings that could potentially help reduce the cost of healthcare in the United States."

The Electrification and Controls Manufacturers Association is a Product Section of the Material Handling Industry. Association members are the industry's leading suppliers of electrification and controlling devices. They supply solutions worldwide and in virtually every major manufacturing and distribution sector.

Material Handling Industry is the nation's largest material handling, logistics and supply chain association. MHI offers education, networking and solution sourcing for members, their customers and the industry as a whole through programming and events.
