U of A to Host First Event for Prospective Marshallese Students
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Marshallese students from local high schools will visit the University of Arkansas campus, along with their parents, on from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 23.
This is the first formal event held at the U of A for prospective Marshallese students, and is a first sign of the university’s initiative to recruit students from the region’s Marshallese community.
The students and their parents will be welcomed to campus, learn about the admissions process for the U of A, as well as the resources that are available to help students succeed and graduate.
They are also scheduled to tour the campus and hear from two Marshallese students who are currently enrolled at the U of A.
The visit coincides with the Red-White Spring football game and the annual RazorFest, so the students will get to see the campus on one of its busiest weekends.
There are currently about 12,000 Marshallese living in Northwest Arkansas and nearby parts of Oklahoma and Missouri, many located in Springdale and Rogers. Only three Marshallese students are currently enrolled at the U of A, and this year the university committed to enrolling more members of this underrepresented population.
