Jozkowski Honored With Early Career Award From Alma Mater

University of Arkansas professor Kristen Jozkowski received a distinguished alumni award earlier this month from the School of Public Health at Indiana University-Bloomington.

Jozkowski, an assistant professor of community health, received the Early Career Outstanding Alumni award from Indiana, where she received a doctorate in health behavior with a minor in mixed research methodology in 2011. While at Indiana University, Jozkowski was the research coordinator for the Center for Sexual Health Promotion and worked with the Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender and Reproduction, research collaborations she maintains in her position at the U of A. She is a Research Fellow at the Kinsey Institute.

The award Jozkowski received is given annually to alumni who have distinguished themselves through professional accomplishment, community service or service to the university, according to the Indiana website. Jozkowski earned her master's degree from IU-Bloomington School of Public Health in 2007.

At Arkansas, she is an affiliate faculty member in gender studies, and the director of the Sexual Health Research Lab.

Jozkowski has authored or co-authored over 50 peer-reviewed articles and made over 85 presentations at national and international conferences. Her work has been cited by mainstream media including The New York Times, Chronicle of Higher Education, the Daily Beast and Cosmopolitan Magazine, demonstrating the impact of her work, according to the award nomination.

In her first year at the U of A, Jozkowski was awarded her department's Outstanding Research Award, and in 2014, she received the Rising STAR Award for excellence in service, teaching and research from the College of Education and Health Professions. Also in 2014, she was awarded the Outstanding Young Professional Award from the Population, Reproductive and Sexual Health Section of the American Public Health Association.

Jozkowski has been invited to speak and lead programming related to sexual violence prevention and rape culture at several universities in the United States and Canada, and she works closely, both in terms of research and advocacy, with local community groups such as the Center for Sexual Assault in Northwest Arkansas.

Jozkowski teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses as well as supervises several doctoral, master's and undergraduate students in her research lab. She is committed to student growth both inside and outside the classroom, the nomination said.
