Martz Joins U of A Office of General Counsel

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Bentonville attorney Michael A. Martz has joined the Fayetteville campus office of the University of Arkansas Office of the General Counsel.  He began work as associate general counsel at the university on Monday, May 9, and is the office’s fourth attorney assigned to the campus, which currently serves over 26,000 students. 

“We had a number of impressive applicants, but Mike stood out for his strong academic background and extensive commercial practice experience,” said Fred Harrison, general counsel for the U of A System. “Mike will be an outstanding addition to our office and provide us with valuable assistance in some priority areas, allowing us to strengthen our services to the campus. We are pleased that he will be joining our team.”

Martz has been in private practice since 2005, with a focus on property and commercial transactions.  He is licensed to practice law in Arkansas and Missouri, and has been admitted to practice in the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Arkansas.

Among other duties as Associate General Counsel, Martz will assist in drafting and reviewing contracts and leases for the campus.

Martz has a B.S. from the University of Arkansas in Computer Science, graduating as a First Ranked Scholar, and graduated cum laude from the University of Arkansas School of Law. He also has an LLM in Intellectual Property and Technology Law from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. 

Martz serves on the boards of Northwest Arkansas Head Start Human Services, Inc., and Northwest Arkansas Senior Services, Inc.  He also serves as member of the Northwest Arkansas Community College Paralegal Advisory Board and has served as an appointed attorney ad litem, representing children in custody matters.
