University Development Celebrates Euculano's 31 Years of Service

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Joe Euculano, director of development in university initiatives, is retiring from the University of Arkansas after 31 years of service. Euculano has served in many roles during his time with the university and will be celebrated with a retirement reception on June 9 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at University House.

Kellie Knight, executive director for university initiatives, said, “Joe Euculano has worked in various roles since joining university advancement in 1999. Whether leading advancement services on the administrative side or serving as a front-line fundraiser with planned giving or university initiatives, the impact of his work on private gift support has been truly incredible.”

Euculano started at the U of A in March 1985 as the coordinator of technology and research in the division of student services. Five years later, he became the assistant vice chancellor for student services – a position he held for nearly a decade. In October 1999, Euculano joined the division of university advancement as the director of advancement services and served as a project manager for the transition to a new donor and alumni information system. He also supervised the gift, record services and information technology departments and acted as a liaison for the construction and remodeling of University House.

In July 2005, Euculano joined the planned giving team as a planned giving outreach officer and collaborated with college and department development colleagues to identify and cultivate new major and planned gift prospects. He also managed and grew the Heritage Society recognition program.

Most recently, Euculano worked in university initiatives and focused on special projects fundraising. His areas of emphasis included the Graduate School and International Education, Research and Economic Development and the Honors College.

“Working with Joe Euculano has been one of the highlights of my first year as dean of the Honors College,” said Lynda Coon. “Joe possesses the kind of intellectual acumen and heartfelt empathy that makes him able to relate flawlessly with the Honors College community. While we shall miss him greatly as a colleague, we plan to engage Joe in our honors community over and beyond the date of his retirement.”

Kim Needy, dean of the Graduate School and International Education, said, “Joe is a valued colleague and effective development officer. What I like most about him is his persistence, warm and friendly demeanor, extensive knowledge about the history of the U of A and his genuine interest in connecting with the university’s alumni and friends.”

Prior to his time at the U of A, Euculano spent eight years with Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan.

Euculano earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Education from Penn State University. He was a doctoral candidate at the University of Michigan from 1979-1984.
