Educational Talent Search Program Offers Local Students Etiquette Lessons

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Students in the Educational Talent Search program at the University of Arkansas will learn lessons in etiquette and fine dining, as well as getting information about college programs and careers in the performing arts.

The seventh and eighth grade students from Springdale, Rogers, Decatur, Gentry and Lincoln school districts will be on campus from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 4, in Arkansas Union, rooms 509-511.

Brian Henderson, director of student placement and employer relations for the College of Engineering, will instruct the students during the etiquette luncheon, which will also provide an introduction to fine dining.    

The event will also offer the students information on the variety of college majors and careers in the performing arts and related fields. Brad Carl, a meteorologist for local television station KHOG, will present an overview of careers and majors related to broadcast journalism and behind the scene operations for television productions, while staff from Bentonville’s Trike Theatre will engage students in a drama classroom simulation. 

The program will end at the Walton Arts Center where students will attend a Blue Man Group performance.

Talent Search is one of eight “TRIO” programs sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education.  The program provides a full spectrum of college preparatory services to first-generation-to-college students who have the potential to enroll and succeed in higher education.  The University of Arkansas has three Talent Search grants which serve 42 target schools.
