Industry Magazine Features Faulkner Center for the Performing Arts

The prestigious industry magazine Sound & Communications, recently featured the Jim and Joyce Faulkner Performing Arts Center in an in-depth article covering the center's transformation from a field house to an impressive performance venue and focusing on its audio capabilities.

The story, "Theater Transformation: New AVL for landmark Faulkner Center for the Performing Arts," chronicles the challenges involved in renovating the original 1937 building to become a much-needed full-blown performance space on the University of Arkansas campus, as part of the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences.

Named in honor of major donors Jim and Joyce Faulkner when it was completed last fall, the center is 39,400 square feet with seating for 587, and the stage can accommodate as many as 250 performers.

Nicole Cotton, the center's managing director, said the venue has become the main performance space for Fulbright College's Department of Music and visiting musical performance groups on campus. Additionally, she said, the center is becoming something of a multipurpose space, with ballet, orchestra and film performances planned throughout 2016 and 2017.

She credits much of the patron's experience to the superior audio quality of the venue — which was lauded in the magazine as "a beautiful space" also designed to be incredibly user- and performer-friendly.

"It's an honor to be highlighted in such an esteemed magazine as Sound & Communications," Cotton said. "This is the industry standard for all who work in performance and commercial audio visual technology and application. Being a part of the magazine shows how far the Faulkner Center has come, and how much we have to offer."
