Fall Literacy Camp Accepting Applications

The University of Arkansas College of Education and Health Professions is offering a Fall Literacy Camp for local elementary students on Mondays from Aug. 29 through Dec. 5.

Local students who have completed kindergarten or grades 1-5 and have a teacher recommendation can attend. Seats are limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Licensed teachers and graduate students enrolled in literacy and dyslexia assessment and intervention courses will screen participants. Following screening, individual intervention plans will be developed and implemented on a one-on-one basis. Students will leave with a report of recommendations for classroom teachers and parents.
Participants will develop phonemic awareness, phonics skills, vocabulary knowledge, fluency and comprehension skills. The camp — located at Washington Elementary School, 425 N. Highland Ave., Fayetteville — will begin each Monday at 3:15 p.m. for snacks and then interventions from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
The cost of the camp is $99. It is presented by the University of Arkansas Clinic for Literacy. Scholarships are also available.
