sUgAR Gallery Presents Running Toward Dreams

The University of Arkansas Student Gallery, sUgAR, will host an opening reception for the touring exhibition Running Toward Dreams from 5:30-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1. The gallery is located at 1 East Center on the Downtown Fayetteville Square.

Running Toward Dreams is a touring exhibition, including Iranian and American young artists. The exhibition first showed in Tehran, Iran. We're pleased to announce the second location for the show is the sUgAR Art Gallery. The third location is scheduled to be in Berlin, Germany. Running Toward Dreams is a phrase composed by both physical and emotional movement toward dreams. The exhibition includes works of art by people who run in Iran and the USA. Individuals from Iran and America oftentimes have different ideas of the concept of running. "Running toward dreams" may simulate the image of a rocking horse that moves repeatedly, but goes neither forward nor backward. —Maryam Amirvaghefi

I remember a day when I was talking to a friend about heaven: heaven as an ideal place in an alternative world, where you can do whatever you want. My friend said, "Heaven, to me, is a place where I can paint all of the time with no limitations or distractions." At that moment, the only thing we wanted was to make art. It definitely sounds senseless for those who are out of this circumstance, but there is a great crowd of people who behave insanely with this unreal dream in mind. A dream is a place that consumes you; however, you may never reach it. The word "dream" embraces a wide range of ideas, such as Individual dreams, global dreams or something in-between, including both. There are various kind of artwork related to the general idea being shown in this exhibition, in which the artists exhibit their own dreams. —Ziba Rajab

The sUgAR Gallery is an interdepartmental exhibition space featuring the visual research of students, faculty, and visiting lecturers from the Department of Art and Fay Jones School of Architecture representing the Departments of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Interior Design. sUgAR is made possible by the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, the Department of Art, the Fay Jones School of Architecture, and the University of Arkansas' Facilities Management.
