First Annual Tech Week Kicks Off With Public Wi-Fi Celebration

Campus technology will take center stage from Oct. 3 to 7, during the first annual Tech Week at the University of Arkansas.

A public celebration of the recent Wi-Fi expansion — completed as part of the Achieve IT initiative — will kick off Tech Week from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, in the Arkansas Union Connections Lounge. Students, faculty and staff can drop by, have a snack, peruse interesting booths, ask burning questions or get tech support from campus experts. CIO Chris McCoy will give a brief presentation about the Wi-Fi expansion at noon.

All are welcome to attend a special CIO Chat event on Tuesday, Oct. 4, in Arkansas Union rooms 509-511. In a collaboration with the University of Arkansas Computer Store, Apple representatives will give a demonstration of the new iOS 10 and macOS Sierra at 10:30 a.m. The CIO Chat will start at noon with CIO Chris McCoy, and the topic will be Innovative Tech.

Campus technology staff members are encouraged to attend the third Tech Week event, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5. The Campus Tech Workshop will foster open dialogue, celebrate victories and strategically approach challenges as "one team." Register by Sept. 30 at its.uark.edu/events.

The first-ever Student Technology Forum will start at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, in Hill Auditorium 202. The forum provides students with a unique opportunity to voice their opinions directly to campus leadership about technology at the University of Arkansas. Pizza will be provided in the lobby, and students who participate will be entered to win gift cards and high-tech prizes.

Students can let off steam at the second annual OGRE Bash on Friday, Oct. 7, in the Student Technology Center. Starting at 11 a.m. and running past midnight, OGRE Bash features tournaments (League of Legends, Hearthstone, Overwatch, Smash Bros and Street Fighter), free food, and raffle prizes for everything from t-shirts to Steel Series gaming equipment. No pre-registration is required, and the event is completely free. The Student Technology Center is located on the 3rd floor of the Arkansas Union. More event details are available on the OGRE Facebook page.
