Sarah Hernandez, assistant professor of civil engineering, was recognized by Chancellor Joseph E. Steinmetz and Provost Ashok Saxena with a new faculty commendation at the University of Arkansas Faculty Teaching Awards reception on Tuesday, Sept. 27.

New faculty members teaching two or more classes were awarded commendations by earning university core teaching scores of 3.5 or better, and earning points through participation in events sponsored by the Wally Cordes Teaching and Faculty Support Center or the UA Teaching Academy. The program was held at the Janelle Hembree Alumni House.

Hernandez began her career here at the University of Arkansas in Fall 2015. She taught two graduate level courses in the 2015-16 academic year: Transportation Planning and Transportation Data Analysis.

Chancellor Joe Steinmetz presents Sarah Hernandez with her recognition.

"The monthly lunches and teaching camp hosted by the Teaching and Faculty Support Center provided me with great opportunities to enhance my teaching and, more importantly, connected me to friendly faculty across campus," Hernandez said. "There is a lot of value in learning about teaching from those outside the engineering community so I appreciated the campuswide TFSC events throughout the year.  I look forward to another round of beneficial luncheons over the upcoming academic year."
