Spatio-Temporal Crime Analysis Expert Joins Sociology and Criminal Justice
Grant Drawve, a specialist in spatio-temporal crime anaylisis, has joined the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences as an assistant professor.
Drawve joins the University of Arkansas from Rutgers University this fall, where he was a post-doctoral research associate with a dual-appointment between the university's Department of Psychology and School of Criminal Justice.
"Dr. Drawve does fascinating work," said Anna Zajicek, chair of the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice. "His expertise in environmental criminology and research on safe communities make him an excellent addition to our department. We are very excited to have him on our team."
Drawve's research and teaching interests include crime and place, crime analysis, geospatial information systems, neighborhoods and crime, community corrections and policing. He applies advanced spatial and statistical methods to develop an understanding of dynamic events, including crime and public health outcomes. Drawve has also managed and assisted multiple Project Safe Neighborhood initiatives aimed at reducing gang and gun violence. He has also managed funded projects focused on the utilization of risk terrain modeling within police departments.
"UA was a great opportunity for me to continue the advancement of my research and interdisciplinary collaboration," Drawve said.
Drawve received a Bachelor of Arts in administration of justice, and Master of Arts in criminology and criminal justice from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He earned a doctorate in criminal justice from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
