U of A Physicist Invited as Visiting Professor to Kyushu University

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Pradeep Kumar, assistant professor of physics at the University of Arkansas, has been invited to serve as a visiting professor at the Kyushu University in Japan in January.

Kumar will teach an intensive graduate course on biophysics for a week. Kumar will deliver eight 90-minute lectures for the course titled “The origin, adaptation, and evolution of living systems.” He will also deliver a physics colloquium for a general audience.

Kumar’s research lab at the U of A lab combines experiments, modeling and theory to understand adaptive evolution of living systems to the extremes of physical and chemical conditions such as temperature and pressure, among other things.

“Kyushu University is one of the seven national universities in Japan and is highly ranked for its research activities, so this invitation is really an honor and privilege for me,” Kumar said. “Another exciting part of this invitation for me is the collaboration with research groups at the Kyushu University as well as other places in Japan.”
