Department of Theatre Opens Show About Censorship
The Department of Theatre opens its third play of the season, The Metal Children by Adam Rapp, on Friday, Nov. 11. Jenny McKnight, instructor of theatre in the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, directs a cast of undergraduate and master of fine arts students in this dark and funny play about censorship.
When a small Midwestern community decides to ban a controversial book involving teen pregnancy, the author travels to the town so that he can address the schoolboard and protest the decision. The result is a fierce debate that engulfs the entire community, and a rather unusual reaction from the town's youth!
The Metal Children opens Friday, Nov. 11. It will be performed at the University Theatre in the Fine Arts Center on campus. The performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. Additional performances are Nov. 16-19 at 7:30 p.m., and Nov. 13 and 20 at 2 p.m. This will be the department's last production of the fall semester. Their season will resume in February 2016 with Lysistrata.
Ticket prices are $20 for adults, $16 for faculty, staff and seniors, and $5 for students and children under the age of 18. University of Arkansas students may attend the show for free on Wednesday and Thursday, or for $5 on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The box office accepts cash, checks, Visa, and Mastercard. Discover and American Express may also be used for online purchases only.

Parking is available in the Stadium Drive Parking Facility and is free after 8 p.m. Entrance to the parking facility is on Stadium Drive, and the facility's elevator will take patrons to street level directly across from the Fine Arts Center.
