Ken McCown, professor and head of the Department of Landscape Architecture in the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design, will present a lecture Nov. 15 at the Arkansas Arts Center in Little Rock.

LITTLE ROCK – Ken McCown will present a lecture at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, at the Arkansas Arts Center, at Ninth and Commerce streets in Little Rock. The lecture, titled "Integrative Specialist," will follow a 5:30 p.m. reception.

McCown, Assoc. AIA, ASLA, IFLI, is professor and head of the Department of Landscape Architecture in the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design. His background includes an undergraduate degree in landscape architecture, and a graduate degree in architecture from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. These degrees provided a platform for integrative, interdisciplinary inquiry into the built environment through urban design, transition design/resilience and ergonomic/behavior design.

In his lecture, McCown will discuss forces such as metropolitan area population increases, climate change, and how new emerging models of professional practice change the role of designers. He'll use examples of collaborative works with professionals, students and faculty in which they explore the role of designers as place-based integrative specialists to discuss and examine how they can increase the impact of design in communities.

The 2016-2017 June Freeman lecture series is sponsored by the Architecture and Design Network, with support from the Central Arkansas Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, the Arkansas Arts Center, the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design and community members.

The lecture is free and open to the public, and no reservations are needed. For more information about this and other ADN programs, contact jonathan@amr-architects.com.
