Parking Lot 44 to Close Saturday as Stadium Expansion Project Begins

Student parking in Lot 44 on the north side of Reynolds Razorback Stadium will be moved to new and expanded lots along Razorback Road while construction occurs on the stadium.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The U of A Transit and Parking Department will be closing Lot 44 beginning at 7 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19 for the Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium expansion project. Lot 44 is a Student and Faculty/Staff parking lot located at the north side of Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium.

The lot will be closed to allow the contractor to move in and set up fences and equipment. Transit and Parking expects a loss of 384 spaces during the initial phase of construction. Forty-eight of these spaces will reopen at the end of March 2017.

Knowing that spaces would be lost due to the construction, the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics worked proactively with Transit and Parking to minimize the parking impact of the project. Razorback Athletics invested more than $4.2 million in the past three years to develop additional parking for students along Razorback Road. The project included demolition of existing houses on the land, site preparation and paving of student parking lots.

Approximately 835 newly surfaced parking spots were created as part of these parking enhancement projects. Even with the temporary loss of some parking spaces in Lot 44, approximately 500 additional parking spots are still available for students, faculty and staff, thanks to the partnership between the Department of Athletics and Transit and Parking. 

All vehicles left in the fenced-in south portion of Lot 44, and all student vehicles remaining in Lot 44 after 7 a.m. Monday morning, Nov. 21, will be cited and relocated at the owner’s expense. The remaining Student section of Lot 44 will be re-designated as Faculty/Staff after the closure of the south portion of the lot, leaving the entire lot as Faculty/Staff designation as of Nov. 21. The Reserved section in the northeast corner of the lot will remain Reserved.

Students who parked in Lot 44 are encouraged to park in the student parking Lots 74, 74A, 74B, 74C and 74D, on the west side of Razorback Road, west of the outdoor track. These lots are located near Transit bus stops for students’ convenience.

Lots 74, 74A and 74B must be vacated for home men’s basketball games.

The stadium expansion project is expected to be completed by Aug. 1, 2018.

During the expansion of Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium, a fence will be erected around the project site, and heavy construction equipment will be in the area. Drivers and pedestrians should exercise caution in all construction zones.
