Voice Students Place in Regional Competition

Vocal students from the University of Arkansas Department of Music participated participated in the 2016 National Association of Teachers of Singing Regional Competition. The competition was held at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia. In total, 342 students took part in the event with 21 separate categories.

Christopher MacRae and Moon-Sook Park had students from their studios represented in the competition. Three students under Park (shown in the photo) took top prizes. Graduate student Ismaelena Serrano took 3rd place in the Advanced Older Women category. Talina Wook, a prospective UA student, took 2nd place in the Avocational Men and Women category. Christopher Senty took 1st place in the Senior Men category. As the first place winner, Senty is now eligible to apply for the 2017 National Association of Teachers national competition in Colorado. He was also selected one of 14 finalists this year for the national competition in Chicago.

Hannah Rodriguez (sophomore, Sophomore Women category) and Charl Young (freshman, Freshman Women in Musical Theatre category) were named semi-finalists in their respective categories. Other UA students participating were Siyu Lou (graduate) and Margaret Stall (junior). Pianist Kristy Mezines, from the UA, collaborated with the students.
