The first men's residence hall, later named Buchanan Hall.

In 1888, this men's residence hall was built about where the southeast corner of Mullins Library is today. According to historian Don Schaefer, the building had three entrances from the front and two from the back, which were probably most used for going to the bath house, since the hall had no showers or toilets. About 1898, the hall was named for John L. Buchanan, the sixth president of the university. Students quickly christened it "Buck Hall." It was torn down in 1937 after the present-day Gibson Hall was built.
