Alaina Tuberville, a junior music education major, was selected to participate and compete in the 2017 Flute Day of the Flute Society of St. Louis. The event was held at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville this past weekend.

After submitting recordings to a panel of judges, Tuberville was selected to perform in a masterclass with Demarre McGill, this year's featured guest artist. McGill, who is "one of the leading young American flutists of our time," is the principal flutist of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and a flutist for the New York MET Orchestra. McGill is also the co-founder and artistic director of Art of Élan, a chamber music organization in San Diego whose goal is to expose new audiences to classical music. In addition to the masterclass with McGill, Alaina competed in the College Young Artist Competition.

Alaina Tuberville is a junior music education major at the University of Arkansas and has been studying flute with Catalina Ortega for over two years. She is the principal flutist of the UA Wind Ensemble and University Symphony Orchestra, and has been involved in the Razorback Marching Band and Hog Wild Bands. She also plays in the university's New Music Ensemble and has performed in several graduate recitals. She has performed in masterclasses with Don Bailey and Marco Granados. She is also a flute sub for the local educational outreaches done in Northwest Arkansas through the Symphony of Northwest Arkansas (SoNA). In the summer of 2015, she was a counselor for the U of A Summer Music Camp, giving private lessons to students. She also teaches flute sectionals in Springdale.
