Student Organization Outreach and Involvement Experience (SOOIE) is proud to announce Registered Student Organization Member and Advisor of the Month for January 2017. The winners are as follows:

The Member of the Month is Sara Covert from the Student Alumni Association. Sara currently serves as the director of Homecoming for the association. Covert has been involved with SAA for three years and in that short time has played a key role in the organization's success. Sara planned, coordinated, and implemented all aspects of the University of Arkansas Homecoming in 2016. She designed the entire homecoming week, starting with the Parade, Food Drive, College Cup, Pig Skin Classic, Pep Rally, and RSO Showcase. She was the kick-starter of the new RSO tiered system, changing the homecoming week judging to be a three-tiered system, judging the winners based on RSO size to determine overall winners. Her peers say that she is a valued member of the Student Alumni Association and a vital member to the Student Alumni Board! We commend her for these accomplishments and appreciate Sara's involvement in campus life.

The Advisor of the Month for January is Ryan Miller. Miller is a product of Student Advancement Programs. Joining the Student Alumni Association when he was a student, he went on to become the vice president of the Student Alumni Board. After working for the Honors and Business Colleges, he returned to his home with the Alumni Association. He now serves as the associate director of student and young alumni outreach. With the help of a few current board members, he led a campuswide recruitment effort to grow the board from 11 inactive members to 27 engaged volunteers. This was further expanded this year to 77 members. Miller has also worked intentionally through his connections across campus, having a representative from SAB serve on the Dean of Students Leadership Advisory Board and the student selection panel for the new chancellor. His contributions to the University of Arkansas are truly invaluable and SOOIE commends him for his dedication to the advancement of the Alumni Association!

Members of the campus community are invited to nominate a deserving advisor, event, or RSO member for one of SOOIE's "of the  month" awards. Contact SOOIE Vice President Sam Harris at sooievp@uark.edu or call 479-575-5255 with any questions about "Of the Month" Awards.
