Award-Winning Playwright Dael Orlandersmith to Perform Free Reading
Actress, poet and playwright Dael Orlandersmith will give a reading from her new play, Until the Flood, at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 13, at the Global Campus Theatre, in the Continuing Education Building at 2 East Center Street. Doors will open at 7 p.m. to begin seating.
This Department of Theatre at the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences presented event is free and open to the public.
A renown performer and writer, Orlandersmith won an Obie award in 1995 for Beauty's Daughter. Her 2002 play, Yellowman, was also a finalist for both the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Play and the Pulitzer prize in Drama, and she received the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize in 2003.
Until the Flood, which was commissioned by the Repertory Theatre in St. Louis, explores the social unrest in Ferguson, MO. The reading will be followed by a Q&A session, led by John Walch, head of the Program in Playwriting MFA, and Constance Bailey, assistant professor in the Department of English and African and African American Studies.
